Matheus was born on 29 March 1992 in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte. He began his career at the club America Mineiro, from where he arrived at Braga in 2014 and became a true legend of the club. He wore the Portuguese team's jersey until February 2025, when he joined Ajax, where he was on loan for half a season. He played 372 competitive matches for Braga and was a regular defender, primarily in the Europa League, then the Champions League, as well as the Conference League. Matheus is a goalkeeper with significant experience on the international stage, and while playing for Braga he won four trophies.
