National Champions 2000.

At the turn of the last century, in the 1999/2000 season, Crvena zvezda won the 22nd national championship title. The team of coach Slavoljub Muslin finished the season in a superior way, having won the second trophy on the domestic stage - the Cup of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. So, after five years, the "double crown" arrived again at the Marakana and we became the first club with a three-digit number of points won - 105.

The generation led by captain Goran Bunjevčević achieved great success and a real feat. The title was celebrated in a fantastic atmosphere. It has been a long time, probably since 1991 and the historic triumph in the European Champions Cup in Bari, that there has not been such joy at Marakana. After the match with Sartida, fans entered the field in large numbers to celebrate the new championship crown together with the players. Bunjevčević, Lerinc, Pjanović, Dudić and the rest were carried off the field on their shoulders. They became Crvena zvezda heroes!

- Now I don't have to play anymore. I've experienced something that few players experience in their careers. I've only seen this in movies - Leo Lerinc did not hide his great enthusiasm at the time.

In that championship, Partizan and the other rivals had no chance against the superior Crvena zvezda, which had already secured the championship title with one round remaining. In the 40 championship matches played, Crvena zvezda has recorded 33 wins, six draws and only one defeat, in the autumn part against Partizan. In the spring, the stars defeated all their rivals in a fantastic series, and only faltered against Zemun, and that at their home stadium, Marakana. But, after that setback, the red and whites did not become demoralized, but on the contrary, they increased the gas even more and achieved 17 consecutive victories...

Before the start of the championship at Marakana, they planned to win the title that they had been eagerly awaiting. However, not everything went as planned. After the fourth round, there was a change of coach, and instead of Miloljub Ostojić, Slavoljub Muslin took over the helm. At the end of the autumn part, Crvena zvezda was six points behind the leading Obilić, and four behind Partizan. But, the main club managers Dragan Džajić and Vladimir Cvetković, together with coach Muslin, raised the team's morale day after day, they knew exactly what needed to be done, and the advantage of Obilić and Partizan began to slowly melt away... In the 32nd round, the red and whites took over the leading position after the victory against Čukarički and remained first in the table until the end.

Crvena zvezda finished the championship with 105 points and is the first club in the history of all domestic championships to win a triple-digit number of points. Zvezda's defense was also excellent, and our club's net was shaken on average 0.46 times per game, which surpassed the performance of Partizan's defense (0.54) from the 1991/92 season.
