Crvena zvezda won its eighth Yugoslav championship title and second double crown in 1964. Due to mandatory military service, Zvezda's second Star Dragoslav Šekularac played only a few matches, and Vojislav Melić successfully took over the baton on the field. Also, Dragan Džajić and Živorad Jevtić practically stepped onto the main stage. It was then that Crvena zvezda's dominance in Yugoslav football practically began with Džajić, Zvezda's third Star.

Crvena zvezda's main opponent was city rival OFK Belgrade, who came within just two points in the penultimate round, after Crvena zvezda in Novi Sad played to a draw with Vojvodina, and OFK Belgrade defeated Radnički 3:1. Although the goal difference was in favor of the Belgrade red and whites, Zvezda ultimately won the title in championship style - by winning against Željezničar 3:1, while OFK Belgrade played to a draw with Novi Sad (3:3). At the end of the championship our club had three points more than OFK Belgrade and Dinamo Zagreb.

Coach: Miša Pavić.
That year 1964 Crvena zvezda said goodbye to the exceptional and very successful coach Miša Pavić, who led our most trophy-winning club from the bench to three championship titles and the same number of Yugoslav Cup trophies.
- We were blessed with the same things that graced the first Crvena zvezda generation - love for the club, responsibility towards the fans and the professional concept introduced by Dr. Aca Obradović. The day after the match, in the analysis of our team's game, every coach from the leader of the first team to the pioneer coach was obliged to present his analysis of the match with a proposal on how to correct the perceived weakness. I can say that I learned coaching at such professional sessions - said the trophy-winning Crvena zvezda coach - Miša Pavić.
At the end of the Yugoslav championship in the 1963/64 season, the final table was as follows:
Crvena zvezda - 36 points, with a goal difference of 45:22
OFK Beograd - 33 points, with a goal difference of 49:32
Dinamo - 26 points, with a goal difference of 40:29
