Crvena zvezda Belgrade's 24th domestic cup triumph was brought to them by South Americans - Brazilian Evandro and Colombian Borja, who scored in the final against Borac Čačak (2:0), played on the neutral field of the "Mladost" stadium in Kruševac in front of 11,000 spectators. It was not easy for Crvena zvezda Belgrade until Evandro's opening goal in the 38th minute, but after that they had no reason to worry. The game was completely in their hands, and the opponent did not know how to organize their attack. Ten minutes before the end of the match, Borja set the final score, and the red and whites deservedly celebrated their triumph in the Serbian Cup in Lazar's Town. It was also the first trophy won in the coaching career of Robert Prosinečki, who as a player was a member of Crvena zvezda's "golden generation", which in 1991 achieved the greatest success in the history of Yugoslav football, with a triumph in the European Champions Cup.

On the way to the final, Crvena zvezda eliminated Mladost from Lučani, Banat, Smederevo and in the semifinals, Partizan was convincingly defeated, with two identical victories (2:0 at Marakana and 2:0 in the second leg away). Colombian Cristian Borja had an excellent goal-scoring performance in the cup – a goal per match (four matches, four goals).
