Table-topping Vojvodina started brightly in the Novi Sad heat with Crvena zvezda taking a bit of time to get going. Both sets of fans provided great noise to make this Superliga clash quite an occasion.
A bit of early pressure from Nenad Lalatović’s side brought a couple of half chances, but it was all blue-clad Zvezda who scored first. Aleksa Vukanović was did well on the left, entered the box and squared nicely for Milan Pavkov to tap in and mark his return to the team with a goal.
Voša were back on level terms ten minutes later when a quickly taken free kick caught our defence out of position and Aranđel Stojković made the most of it by firing a shot past Borjan. The ball took a slight deflection off Dušan Jovančić on the way so Borjan couldn’t prevent it from going in.
Moment of the match came on 59 minutes when Mateo García produced a moment of magic that will live long in the memory. He took a corner from the left hand side that was only poorly cleared. The little Argentinean continued his run towards the box and met the cleared ball first time with the outside of his left boot to lash it high into the net and make it 2-1. It was an excepional strike!
Vojvodina tried to mount another comeback, but Vladan Milojević’s side kept the ball very well and hardly allowed Vojvodina to mount any meaningful attack in the remaining 30 minutes.
It was a good win indeed for the red and whites!
