With sadness we report that Goran Bunjevčević, former Crvena zvezda captain and Director of Football has passed away on 28 June 2018. He was 45 years old.
Goran fought bravely for over a month after suffering an aneurysm on 20 May this year, but has today tragically lost the battle.
Goran Bunjevčević was born on 17 February 1973 in Karlovac. He arrived to our club after playing for Grafičar, BASK and Rad in Belgrade. He spent four seasons at Zvezda and won four trophies. He made 169 appearances for the red-and-whites and scored 19 goals on the road to winning league titles in 2000 and 2001 along with two Cups in 1999 and 2000.
In the summer of 2001 he signed for Tottenham Hotspur in England, where he made 51 appearances in the Premier League before playing one final season at ADO Den Haag in Holland in the 2006/07 season.
“Bunja” won 16 caps for then-Yugoslavia. He made his debut in 1998’s 2-0 defeat to Israel. His final appearance for the national team was in 2003 in a 3-2 victory over Wales.
After ending his playing career he took the role of Director of Football at his favorite club in 2008.
In the final years of his life he was working in various roles within the FSS (Football Association of Serbia).
