Vladimir Petrović was born on July 1st 1955 in Belgrade, and in football circles he is known for his nickname-Pižon, which is French for pigeon.
His rich career, both as a player and as a coach turned him into one of the most respected people in the football industry of our country. He spent a great part of his career in our club, where he got the honorary title of the fourth Red Star’s Star, or in other words he made it among top five best players who have ever played on the team. He was also one of the youngest debutants in the club, because back in 1971 when he played his first game on the team, he was only 16. He won eleven National trophies, five titles and six cups, and the biggest regret is losing the UEFA Cup Final in 1979 against Borussia from Mönchengladbach, the team he also played on during his career. He played a total of 427 games in the red and white uniform. After 11 years at Marakana, he went to London, and played on the Arsenal team for a season. He continued his international career in France, in the clubs Brest and Nancy and then in Belgian clubs Antwerp and Standard from Liege.
He played on the National team 34 times. He scored five goals and he participated in World Cups in 1974 and in 1982. He ended his career as a national team player at the age of 27, in the game against the Norway team in Oslo, in the qualifications for the European Cup 1984.
As a coach, he also made some remarkable results, mostly coaching Red Star, the club where he was also affirmed as a player. Last year, on 15th September, he was elected head coach of the Serbian National Team.
