Former Crvena zvezda and Serbia Captain Dejan Stanković has been appointed Head Coach at Rajko Mitić Stadium! He joins his boyhood club on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Stanković took the time to thank his predecessor Vladan Milojević on doing a fantastic job and leaving a quality team that will be able to bring even more success to the club.
“I’ve learned so much from my mentors during my time as a player and a coach. I’m happy and proud that my first job as Head Coach is with my Zvezda. I will do everything I possibly can to prove the believers right and doubters wrong. I’m here to work hard and to fight like a lion so this club can win.”
Our new boss reflected on the coaches he’d worked with during his rich career.
“I’ve texted Jose Mourinho with the news and he was surprised and delighted for me. He wished me well. I’ve spoken with Siniša Mihajlović as well. I will try to pick up good things from all those people who coached me. I hope to show the patience of Sven-Goran Ericssen, Roberto Mancini’s hands-on approach, Mourinho’s character and Siniša Mihajlović’s attitude.”
Dejan tried to explain just how important Zvezda is to him.
“I grew up here. I made my debut aged 16. I was named Captain when I was just a kid. I was brought up with values of this club instilled in me. I know how heavy this shirt can feel, but I also know that winning for Zvezda is the best feeling ever. I will try to tell that to the players all the time.”
Welcome back home, Dejan Stanković!
