Bayern secured the top spot in Group B after yet another clinical display. Our team lasted 14 minutes before conceding the first goal, a powerful header from Leon Goretzka. The German side won the battle in midfield and put heavy pressure on our back line for long spells of the match.
Despite heavy barrage from the visitors, it was only 1-0 to Bayern at half time, thanks to some fine saves by Milan Borjan and a favorable VAR decision that chalked a Lewandowski ‘goal’ off.
However, there was no escape in the second half as Robert Lewandowski stole the show and scored four goals in space of just 14 minutes to make it 5-0. Our team looked vulnerable as Bayern pacey wingers created all sorts of problems for our defence.
On the other end, there were few opportunities to get a sight of Manuel Neuer’s net
Corentin Tolisso added a late sixth goal to complete a miserable night for the red and whites.
Tottenham’s victory over Olympiacos meant that we’ve remained third in the table with another matchday remaining. We’ll travel to Pireaus in two weeks looking for a result that would give our club a chance to continue the European adventure in the Europa League after the winter break.
