Football world has been saddened by the passing of Crvena zvezda legend Dragoslav “Šeki” Šekularac and UEFA President Aleksandar Čeferin paid his tributes to former Zvezda star and Head Coach.
The club has received a letter from UEFA with these kind words from Mr Čeferin:
“I’m deeply saddened by Dragoslav Šekularac’s recent passing. He will forever be remembered as one of the greatest and adored Yugoslav players who had made his mark on an entire era of European and world football.”
“He was a great champion who won five titles and three cups with Crvena zvezda, but has also starred for the national team, especially at the Euro 1960 in France, where he led Yugoslavia to the final.”
“He was a legend long before his death and was considered a role-model by generations of footballers. He was well ahead of his time and that is the reason people are still talking about his skills and goals.”
“Everyone who grew up watching the national team of Yugoslavia will forever cherish memories of Dragoslav Šekularac.”
