The difference in quality of the teams was obvious from the kick-off, but Crvena zvezda took a long time to really start playing. The first half was therefore rather uneventful, with only Plavšić, Vieira and Srnić recording half chances for Crvena zvezda.
The match was injected with some much needed urgency after the restart, however, and Andrija Luković in particular was playing well and pulling the strings in midfield. He was unlucky to hit woodwork twice, once from a free kick and the other time from open play. The latter proved a key moment as his beautiful shot kindly bounced off the post for Srnić to prod home easily and make it 1-0 on 68 minutes.
Zvezda never looked back and the visitors couldn’t find a reply two minutes later when Hugo Vieira finished coolly to double the lead and put the match beyond doubt.
Miodrag Božović’s men continued to push forward and were awarded a penalty kick on 88 minutes Mitchell Donald was fouled in the visitors’ box. Up stepped substitute Petar Orlandić to convert the spot kick and make it Crvena zvezda 3 BSK Borča 0.
The red-and-whites therefore remain on course to both domestic trophies with Serbian Cup Quarter Finals set to be played after the winter break.
