After the disappointment of Tuesday's Champions League exit, Miodrag Božović had an important task of getting his side motivated for a potentially tricky trip to Lučani.
In-form players Mitchell Donald and Aleksandar Katai were on the bench with Pablo Mouche and John Jairo Ruiz starting.
Božović's men had a storming start to the match and were 1-0 up after just two minutes. Plavšić won the ball on the right flank and played a smart through ball for Hugo Vieira who finished well to give his team the lead. He also hit the crossbar seven minutes later.
Even though Crvena zvezda were the better team, Mladost found their way back into the match on 19 minutes when Saša Jovanovic raced onto a lobbed pass and beat Kahriman to make it 1-1.
But Zvezda wouldn't stop pushing forward and were ahead again after just two minutes. Ristić took a free kick and Zoran Rendulić rised to head it in off the bar.
Hugo Vieira extended the Crvena zvezda lead on the hour, heading home after another Mihailo Ristić assist. That was Hugo's third goal of the campaign.
Mladost started the second half well and managed to half the deficit on 47 minutes. That man Jovanović was on target again with Tumbasević creating the goal.
This didn't unsettle the visitors, though, and Crvena zvezda continued to control the play.
Marko Poletanović scored the best goal of the match on 57 minutes. He took a perfect free kick and rifled it in the top corner of Krznarić's net to make it 4-2 to Zvezda.
Katai, Donald and Sikimić all came on in the closing stages of the match with Katai in particular creating a few good chances. There were no more goals, though, and Crvena zvezda continued to control the game and secure three more points.
