After some stressful matches against Milan and the nervy trip to Subotice, Dejan Stanković must have been pretty thankful for a rather straightforward and highly convincing win againt Proleter. The red and whites started well and put the visitors under pressure. Milan Pavkov shot just wide early on and Ivanić hit the crossbar on 11 minutes. It was just a matter of time before we got the lead, but it was an unlikely name on the scoresheet for the opening goal. Proleter's Brazilian defender Leandro couldn't deal with a pacey low cross from Milan Rodić and he put it into his own net from close range.
Our team combined nicely on 32 minutes down the right and it left Gajić with some space just inside the area. The right-back squared nicely for Veljko Nikolić who had time to aim and fire past Kristijan Župić and double the lead.
El Fardou Ben Nabouhane scored at San Siro three days previously and he scored again at our 'Marakana'. He moved into the danger area and fired in from a Veljko Nikolić's pass that took slight deflection off Leandro. The red and whites didn't stop and Pavkov was again unlucky not to add to his tally when found by a Slavoljub Srnić pass.
Kenyan midfielder Richard Odada will remember this day forever because he got off the bench to make his Crvena zvezda debut on 78 minutes. He is a strong box-to-box midfieler with bags of potential who impressed the boss during our winter's training camp in Turkey. It will be wonderful to see him fulfill his potential in a red and white shirt.
Aleksandar Katai announced his comeback to fitness with a rare headed goal in the dying seconds of the match to complete a 4-0 rout for the Supreliga holders.
