It was a party atmosphere at our stadium as the fans anticipated a proper title celebration. But there was a match to be won before everyone could relax and Proleter have done their bit to try and spoil the celebrations.
The visitors scored after just six minutes as Andrejević’s header beat Borjan after a corner. Zvezda faced a deficit once again, but looked determined to turn it around and make it a good send-off for the successful campaign.
Vukanović played Mateo Garcia in with a great ball and the Argentinean slotted nicely to make it 1-1. Our defenders were happy to go forward and try to get a goal as Rodić and Degenek bombed forward and tried their luck with long shots. But it was our right back
Milan Gajić who beat Petrić with a fine shot into the far corner after a nice pass from Mateo on 37 minutes.
Mateo was great on the day and looked hungry. He sprayed passes around and nearly recorded another assist as Tomane nearly scored from the former Instituto player’s pass.
Sekou Sanogo made his belated Crvena zvezda debut as he replaced Branko Jovičić on 66 minutes amid big applause from the crowd.
Gajić and Rodić attempted shots late on as the match wound down, but the score remained 2-1 and the final whistle marked the start of an elaborate celebration ceremony at our ‘Marakana’. It was a long, eventful season, full of ups and downs, but we ended it on a high and celebrated our 31st national title.
Thank you for your support, red and whites!
