TSC showed great resilience and ambition in what was only the third-ever meeting of the clubs.
The hosts scored twice in space of five minutes early on and it proved crucial in the end as the red and whites could only score a late consolation and try to force an equaliser.
A header from Varga and a deflected free kick from Lukić did the damage on a sunny day in Senta with the Champions still reeling after
midweek’s Kup Srbije semi final exit.
Dejan Stanković’s team never gave up and did their best to push TSC all the way with Ivanić creating a few chances for his team-mates before the break. But the Superliga surprise package held on and gave the Belgade side a good game indeed.
Ivanić, Nikolić and Simić had their chances after the break, but Filipović in the TSC goal did well to preserve his side’s two-goal cushion until rather late on. Zvezda caught a lifeline on 78 minutes as Radulović’s cross ended up in the feet of Nemanja Milunović. The big defender showed nice technique to turn and finish to make it 2-1. But it was to prove too little too late as TSC managed to hold onto the lead and claim a famous victory.
