In 1960, Crvena zvezda won their fourth Champion title in five years, sixth in total. In the end they triumphed with a point advantage over Dinamo Zagreb, while Partizan and Vojvodina were down by six points, and Hajduk bys seven...
At the end of the season 1960, Crvena zvezda, had 15 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats out of 22 matches, with goal difference of 47:25, and a total of 33 points. At the JNA Stadium on the September 27th 1959, Crvena zvezda crushingly defeated Partizan 3:0 in the 25th eternal derby. The goals were scored by Nikola Stipić (63 and 70 minutes) Ivan Popović (79 minutes). During that season Crvena zvezda only had a negative score against Dinamo (0:0 , 1:2) and Budućnost (0:2, 1:0).
At the end of the fifties, Crvena zvezda had an exceptional team, whose brightest stars were the goal-keeper - great Vladimir Beara, excellent scorer Bora Kostić and the greatest star, Dragoslav Šekularac, who would shine his brightest two years later at the World Cup in Chile, where Yugoslavia was ranked the fourth and he was chosen as one of the players in the ideal world team. Technically, the team leader was Doctor Aleksandar Obradović. The best scorer of the championship was Bora Kostić with 19 goals. By the way, Kostić is the player who scored most goals ever for Zvezda in Championship games - a total of 158!
- You are either born a scorer or not. It’s pure malice when they say that Džaja targeted Laza’s head and that this is how he usually scored goals. They were both masters and Vojin Lazarević was the best European head-scorer after Kocsis. Many of our experts found even the famous Hungarian’s flaws, because his kicks weren’t nearly as powerful as his head - stated Bora Kostić, top scorer in the history of Crvena zvezda, who won six national championships and three cups with the team.
